Text Ticker: IT’s global “cloud”

The Economist‘s special report on cloud computing is useful, but it gives very little attention to the privacy concerns, which I believe are tremendous. Companies like Microsoft, Google, and Yahoo are learning that it is in their interest for all of us, both companies and individuals, to keep our data on their servers rather than on our own hard drives. This does lend some conveniences, and an appealing portability, but we have to be careful not to let this go forward without serious legal and technological assurances that privacy will be protected.
