Last year in Chicago it was much smaller compared to San Diego when SBL/AAR met together. A number of publishers couldn't afford to do both shows and had to choose between one or the other. I was busy with a book launch and participating in a theology pub that I didn't go to many seminars but it was a bummer not to have a few of my favorite SBL folks there. That also meant that there weren't nearly as many party invites. Hopefully when the two unite (I think it's San Francisco in 2012, the show will be back in full force).
