Notes on Mass11/05/2006 13:56:46Today those of us at St. Raphael's in Goleta, CA had a nice Mass. I thought so, anyway. I needed it. There was great positivity and insistence on love of God and each other. The usual. But I needed it. This was a nice thing that was in the bulletin. It was a good relief from Kierkegaard's Edifying Discourses. I ripped it out and put it in my pocket: God's laws are not intended to burden or torment us. Instead they are guideposts that point us in the direction of good living. Accordingly, good living requires loving God and loving one another. We should not follow God's laws out of fear of what might happen if we don't, but rather view them as a foundation for building relationships and trust with one another and with God. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - |
