A really wonderful post (with links to a few more) from BLDGBLOG, which discusses some religious dimensions of the space elevator concept: A 1.6km-long carbon ribbon in the skies above Arizona.

As technology develops its Powers, religious imagination always follows it.

Today the same site features a new post on a similar subject, a cellphone antenna in the shape of a cross. It won't be long, I predict, before technological-scientific signals will be perfectly synonymous with spiritual signals.
