"Had we but world enough, and time..." *

The Word of God on Subway Trains

1/05/2007 10:33:11

Ending out the holiday season, which has been a time of lots of traveling and good friends for me, I'll leave you with a poem, most of all to assure the weblog that I have not abandoned it.

On the one hand I am making
a world onto myself by reading at all,
no different from the newspaper.
But you see the cover - HOLY BIBLE -
and in the middle of so much
silence and alternating noise,
conversations like islands
in a lagoon of faces together,
(yet valiantly alone, moving by
no means of our own)
your Book sort of says, no.
No, we are together.
No, the world is round and not flat.
And even the person moved by machines
is a person.
