Small's Clone Industries Grows

7/10/2007 11:00:13

I am really happy to announce coming growth for Small's Clone Industries, the parent company for this site. Small's Clone is an organization that, according to its mission, "produces many things and ideas, working to built a convincing corporate face for those who might not otherwise have one." In a world like ours, where presentation is truth and the corporate is reality, this is a vital public service for those who do not have the benefit of already operating under the auspices of a mega-corporation.

Two new industries are being added to Small's Clone. The first, and most exciting, is a defense contractor that deals in nonviolent technology. This work is based on the thinking I put forth in my most recent post on this site. It is called the Division of Nonviolent Technology.

The second, Arlington Is Awesome, is the new web presence of a small business Small's Clone has been operating for several years. It deals exclusively in paraphernalia celebrating Arlington, Virginia, the smallest county in the United States. Thanks to the new website, Arlington gear will be available for order online.

I encourage all of you to visit these sites and enjoy what they have to offer. Meanwhile, don't neglect all the other subsidiaries, including this one, attractively listed at http://www.smallsclone.com.

Great projects.

Except everyone knows that Montgomery County could take on Arlington any day.

Also, why is "DoNT" pronounced like "font" and not like "don't kill"?

No it can't!

The reason I prefer the more mundane pronounciation is to explore the tension between activism and corporatism. I chose the name intentionally so that the "don't" pronounciation might be possible, and perhaps even suggest itself. But I assert that it is properly "dont" because it sounds like the sort of unmeaningful blob that the names of so many large companies today are. The "don't" meaning, meaning precisely, as you suggest, "don't kill," is intended to act as a subliminal implication beneath a name lacking in passion and vitality enough to be a company trying to score contracts at the Pentagon.
